Soft sponge

I'm refinishing a lapstrake (Sassafras) with lots of edges, and am finding the best solution for me is an old piece of closed-cell foam (mine out of an old PFD) with some 150-grit wrapped around it. This is softer than the 3M sponges - I like the feel better. I've also just wrapped a piece of finer-grit paper around a used sponge, which works fine as well.

The more sanding I do, the more I favor hand sanding as opposed to machine.
