Again, thanks one and all for the tips. Fairing boards sound a lot like the flat drywall sanding boards, that I have at home. Never really considered using them till now. I also just remembered that I have a detail sander (you know the ones with the triangular heads). It's been a few years since I've done any real woodworking, so I forget what I have (my advancing age has nothing to do with it...really). I might give it a try.

Terry, thanks for the e-mail on the brass strips BTW. I just got my box of toys from the big brown truck on Monday. #6 brass oval head screws, brass half oval, Epifanes varnish and some neat bronze padeyes for my carrying toggles. It's Christmas in February!
