Re: starved scarfs?

What works better for scarfing: the screw method, or the 5-gallon bucket thing? I'd think that the bucket is too heavy - and will cause the schmoo to escape. I coming up on the scarf thing and I'd like to avoid a failed joint. Also, is there a stress-test that you gurus know of to add a degree of confidence?
