If Lou is as smooth as a yogi sitting down then the seat will hold up. If he plops down his 250lbs or steps on the seat then the strength of each slat will be tested. Speaking as one who has built four and repaired two.

My preference for a seat is one that doesn't fall out when the kayak/canoe is transported/capsized or is susceptible to damage if you step on it. I know the fiberglass tractor seat on an aluminum frame isn't made of organic epoxy and wood but there must be a reason Wenona has been making them besides weight/strength for their $1200-$3500 canoes.
