I am curious to learn how the under-deck 'X' shock cord pattern works out. It should give more slack when unhooked, but I wonder if the shock cords will interfere with storing gear.

It probably will have enough hold-down tension, though not as much as shock cords positioned to give more direct downward pressure.

The soft padeye on the hatch cover works well for lifting. On my first kayak I made a finger divot at the edge of the deck, but that was much harder to work with wet of gloved hands.

A big benefit from internal hold-downs is the lack of deck spray when heading into the wind or surfing.
