Ches. 18 deck beam
Posted by Karl on Jan 7, 2005
I'm building a Chesapeake 18 as my first boat. Because I'm 6'7" I ordered the custom coaming with an opening of 18 1/2" by 34". The plans call for the deck beam to be located 101" from the bow tip. Question 1; is this the correct distance for the deck beam, given that I have the custom coaming? Question 2; is there any forseeable issues with moving the beam frward to say 99" to give my knees another couple of inches of potential clearance. I've already trimmed the bulkheads slightly in order to move the rear back an inch and the forward bulkhead upwards an inch. This seemed to work easily enough.
