Mac, did you share some of that triangular bottle with him? I am not an expert on Japanese destroyers, but Dad was on one of ours. That peaked an interest in things naval in WWII. Nowhere have I read about submarines or other vessels finding Japanese survivors floating in a sea of ping pong balls. Indeed the floating debris was checked when possible for something that would identify the sunken vessel, or for something that could be used by "intellegence". Early in the war the U.S. had some torpedoes with unreliable detonators, both contact and magnetic, and the "fish" ran 11 ft. deeper than set. Every thing was hard to sink with them. RogerJ
