Cliff, it's easy to think that the deck beam location is critical for structural reasons,,but it's structure is mostly needed for the application of the deck. Once the coaming stack is on the thick deck beam becomes kind of redundant for deck strength,,,that's what the glass is for. If you get a chance look at the Arctic Hawk,,it doesn't have a deck beam,,just a couple extra layers of 4oz glass on the deck and it's got a shallower coaming stack. I've seen a couple Chesapeakes where the aft edge of the coaming was suspended a couple inches past an aft bulkhead or the front edge of the coaming was suspended a couple inches aft of a forward placed deck beam. Just make sure the deck beam is well rounded so you don't lose shin skin.
