i built a four kayak rack that holds my boats along one wall in the garage.

built it pretty inexpensively with 2 vertical 2X4 lag bolted to the studs about 8 feet apart. then used 90 degree angle brackets to support 24" 2X4 fingers to actually hold the boats. i covered the "fingers" with carpet held down using contact cement to make a nice comfortable resting place for the boats.

in my case, measured carefully the vertical distance between the fingers so that i could get the most boats against the wall.
