Laszlo, My CH17 is not in the water yet but I am past the nightmare of getting the deck down single-handed. Some people make it sound so easy! I suspect the forward deck beam is just there to make sure the front of the deck doesn't flatten out as the deck starts to sweep up at the bow. Pulling the deck down into the curve as you work forward does help to force this curve towards the bow. I split the edge of the deck tweaking the strap too tight, perhaps I also had too much ply overhanging the shear clamps (building from plans). I suspect each sheet of ply behaves slightly differently when forced into this shape. Good luck. Allan
