Re: Niagara River

You can paddle the Niagara River from Niagara on the Lake to Queenston and return in an afternoon. It is also a nice paddle above the falls between Chippawa (suburb of Niagara Falls) and Fort Erie (across from Buffalo). Most people avoid the strong current coming from Lake Erie and start just N of Fort Erie. There are several public launch ramps along the Niagara Parkway with the final one in sight of the mist of the falls. Paddling upstream is relatively easy if you keep to the eddies along the Canadian shore which is also protected from the predominant winds. More information could be gained by contacting the Peninsula Paddlers Kayak Club at www.peninsulapaddlers.tripod.com/kayaking/index.html
