Uh, actually I've been using acetone for three years now on three different projects all to good effect. Acetone works very well and doesn't leave a residue if you do the job properly. Just wanted to clarify that. I always use acetone to wipe down a project before applying a new coat of epoxy.
Still, it's not the best choice since it is a neural toxin. I'd go for the vinegar approach, it's cheaper by far.
