Stanley makes the Surform planes, which are really rasps with a variety of blade sizes/ shapes and handles. I like the one with the 2" curved blade on the plastic handle (about $5.00 at the home centers). I use these planes far more than my block planes around epoxy, (note the previous posts about nicked plane irons). The Surform is also great for hacking off the stitch wires flush: takes about 10 minutes to do the entire boat. I keep a duller one for this job, as well as for hacking down epoxy drips, and save the sharp one for wood.

Planely, a better tool.
