Re: deck nails

Peter,

I taped my deck, but added nails anyway - 'cause I like the look. I pre-drilled for even spacing, hammered them a little bit proud, sanded them flush and shiny and then glassed and epoxied over them. No bubbles, white spots, humps or dips - just gleaming phosphor bronze. Did the same down the sides when I added mahogony run rails.

Leaving them a little high, then sanding them along with the deck achieves two things - they are totally level and smooth, and you remove any oxidization, oil or contamination.

Let's see em try that on a plastic yak!

Good building!
