LT 17 Plan alteration

I'd like to build ANOTHER LT 17, from plans. I'm going to make it as light as I can. I'd like to make the cockpit more tightly fitting than the last one. I had to add LOTS of padding to get my thighs to get good purchase for rolling control. I'd like to get the flanges of the cockpit coaming much closer to my thighs so I wouldn't need so much foam. Can I lower the deck by making the top panel an inch or so less? Can I flatten the deck radius closer to the cockpit to bring things down? Any ideas you may have, all you experts, would be greatly appreciated.
