You could glue up something from a 1/2" camp pad but why not spend the same amount of money for a 2'x2'x3" block of minicell from CLC? They haven't raised the price in a LONNGGGG time..shh,,, so it's still a deal compared to a pre-made seat that doesn't work as well as you'd like. Do a search on seat carving for kayaks. After awhile you'll notice that there's a fair amount of web space devoted to it. It's odd that folks will balk at carving a seat after having built a kayak,,,even though the feedback is that numb legs is common. Think about it,,make your own kayak,,but go with a stock seat. One size does not fit all.

In kayak classes I found that 1/5 of beginners cannot paddle more than 15minutes without numb legs leading to significant discomfort.
