Wade,

Very normal for the bow and stern keels to show when boat is empty - this is rocker. Get someone to tell you how the balance is with you in the boat. I'd go for even freeboard front to back.

Paddle many more times in different conditions and then go back to the demo - you'll be surprised how similar it will be.

I speak from experience - I was ready to burn my yak the first day. This forum told me to keep paddling before I did something radical. Know what? It was me - not the kayak. Now we dance like lovers.
