I've applied fill coats with rollers then tipped out the bubbles. If everything is perfect,,oh right,,then two fill coats is sufficient for 4oz cloth and three for 6oz cloth. It looks more uneven and heinous with each fill coat with variations in fill amplified. The fill coats aren't like varnish where each coat is providing successively smoother surface. Just be careful sanding where there is texture.
In the drawing linked below there should be one more layer of epoxy on the glass as sanding down near the glass removes one of the reasons for using epoxy,,it's a hard, waterproof plastic that protects wood AND fiberglass from damage.
