Alex, In any 3-ply plywood the grain orientation is very important. In 5-ply it's not so critcal. One thing for sure, it doesn't sound like efficient use of the ply. You're going to have a scarf every four feet. Seems like a lot of work for no benefit. In large wooden boats they use a technique called "cold-molding". They cut the ply into strips and apply it crosswise in several layers. This is marked departure from S&G. What's a Mac50 anyway? Charlie
