clamp location

not usually an issue - but with major bending if one puts the clamps(or slipknot if rope) anywhere but on the deck there will not be the edge grabbing of the webbing or rope over those free edges.

severe bending will be also aided by greater overhangs(get curvature more toward the edge), glue only(nailing reduces edge curvature), and blocks (or even better a continuous wood strip) that have little edge overhangs that stop the 'edgeclamp' from moving inward from the edge. or also can fix with strong springclamps or temp screwing from below(but a lip of nails/scrap/screw/sawkerf is easy).

this is just for the real severe stuff. minimal curvature/bending requires minimal steps.
