Go to Home Depot, Lowes or any paint store. It is an additive for paint and varnish. Improves flow (leveling) and delays set time so the wet edge is not so hard to keep "wet".
Varnish "sets" fast but takes a while to get hard which means normally you gotta work sort of fast unless its cool weather. Penetrol helps with that issue. Add 2 or 3 ounces per quart. Stir in. A quart of Penetrol will last you a long time. Be sure to get the version for oil based paint. They make one for water based stuff too.
Not expensive and will make your life much easier.
