You might wait for more feedback before you 'make the plunge', so to speak. I've not built a paddle, but have read, somewhere, that cedar wasn't a good choice for the shaft; too soft/weak, for a europaddle. BUT I COULD BE WRONG! After all, they make GP out of cedar; So you might want to solicit a few more responses, first.
