LT 17 hull shape

I have my LT17 kit hull wired, and find that the bottom panels form a "V" that is shallower than the rear bulkhead shape by approximately one inch. I am presently planning to shim out my keel line to get closer to the bulkhead panel shape. Is this the thing to do?
