I made a repair to the deck of my boat. I sanded all the varnish off and applied epoxy. I soon found out that I didn't get all the varnish off because it left dark golden pools under the epoxy. It looked terrible and blotchy. I had to wait for full epoxy cure so that I could sand that down to get to the varnish I missed.

Trust me you don't want to have varnish under epoxy. It's very unattractive.
