As for the varnish, for what its worth, I finished my first boat in 2001, and varnished it with the Z-Spar Captains varnish sold by CLC. I am right now finishing my second boat, and have been applying varnish from the same can, which has been sitting on the shelf in my garage for three years. So far, through three coats, it appears to be going on just fine.
