The more experienced paddlers will tell you that rear deck does get some abuse sometimes. I�ve got to agree with that. When doing a self-rescue or just sitting on the rear deck while you get into your boat. You will want to be confident you won�t break anything. Especially, during an emergency. There is generally more strength in the design of the front deck because of the tighter arc and you don�t generally sit on the front deck anyway.

So compromise. Just put the glass where you need it, on about three feet of the rear deck behind the cockpit. Add strength where you need it and you save weight where you don�t.
