screwing deck beams

I�ve just epoxyed the deck beams in place. The New Kayak Shop says to also use screws to attach the sheer clams to the deck beams. A few questions:

1. Is this really necessary? The epoxy bond seems sufficed to me� 2. The screw should be placed such that it first goes through the panel that composes the hull as well, right? 3. The book says to have the screw head flush with the surface of the hull. Does the rounded top portion of the head of the screw or the bottom flat portion of the head? 4. The kayak on the cover doesn�t seem to have a visible screw head in the place were it would be if they used screws to attach the deck beams�
