Dang Kurt, I like your reasoning. I guess I'll take that advice on my third boat ;-)

As far as possible side effects, the 'rolling bevel' between the two bulkheads will become a little more extreme and the deck might lack a bit of support in the middle of the forward compartment if you move it drastically. I guess you could add a strip of plywood to the underside of the deck to compensate a little, though it probably isn't necessary.
