I, being way to cheap to ever consider buying a decent table saw, do my ripping with a circular saw and a long aluminum angle iron, clamped on square to the cut. Comes out straight enough for me, and I make thin ash trim quite nicely.

A true minimalist would probaly just use a sharp penknife.
