Hi Dennis

If you go with the method I used, be a little wary of twist in the hatch when you glue the braces on. the rear hatches on both my kayaks was no problems but I ended up with a 1/4 inch twist in one of the front hatches and had to cut some kerfs to get the shape right.

The photo below shows the corner not quite flush with the deck.
