The outriggers and sailrig took longer to build than the kayak because you have to do everything twice. I found the narrow hulls more difficult to work in than the kayak. Also having a perfectly good kayak cut into the time available for further building. The sailrig is much better than the inflatable / downwind only kits as I can really cut a strong angle across the wind and move upwind through tack & jibe. One day when the wind fell off, I took the mast & sail down unlashed the aka's and move the rig around to the back of the kayak like rear training wheels. This gave me almost enough room to do a comfortable paddle stroke back across the lake. Also made a very stable kayak.
