When I was doing a lot of off-shore sailing, PFD (inflatable) and harness was standard worn gear, fair or foul. One wet day while transiting Detroit, I slipped my foul weather jacket over an auto-inflate model then went in the cabin to look at the chart. Yup, the wet foul weather jacket set off the CO2 cartridge and turned me into a Michelin man. So for sure you don't want an auto model in your kayak (or sailboat) and the pull types aren't so good for the reasons above. Still most 35 lb. inflatables will double the flotation of a kayak vest and the Navy models go over 50 lbs flotation. Thanks Kurt for a good lesson. Dave
