I agree that after 4 coats you can sand. The overlap areas will sand out just fine too. After you get it smooth you may want to add a final coat of epoxy then sand it lightly as prep for varnish. Remember the "zen of sanding". Go slow, enjoy the process of getting a result that will make you smile. If you get tired of sanding then walk away for a few hours or a day then come back. Don't be tempted to rush this part of the job. No one will see the hours you spent building the boat but everyone will see the time you spend finishing. Finish to a level that makes you happy. You will know when you are there. Then post a picture!
