Family Boatbuilding - Peace Canoes in a Weekend
Location: Penobscot Marine Museum, Searsport, Maine
Dates: Aug 15, 2007 - Aug 17, 2007
Instructor: John C. Harris
Build your own boat in three days! John Harris will supervise groups of family members or friends as they do just that. This year’s project will be the “Peace Canoe” designed by John specifically for group boatbuilding and first-time builders. Constructed from a kit, the canoe is 18 feet long by 44 inches wide, and weighs only 100 pounds.
Peace Canoe construction does not require the use of epoxy resins and the process is forgiving of small errors, allowing children above the age of 12 to join in safely. Each group will go home with a boat on top of their car—but not before we parade through town to launch them all together from the town wharf!
Learn more about the Peace Canoe Here (renamed from the prototypical multi-passenger war canoe of Native American origin).
